The Corio Method

The Corio Method was created and is taught by the amazing Elle Kealy. It’s a mix of dance, barre, and fitness. It uses the power of interval training to keep your metabolism revved. It hits thighs, glutes, core, triceps and other trouble spots with targeted bodyweight and resistance training while cardio is hidden inside high energy easy-to-do dance inspired routines. Barre and Pilates training principles balance your physique and create perfect posture and inner strength.

It covers 3 types of classes: THE MOVES (50% fitness and 50% dance), THE SHAPES (80% fitness and 20% dance), and THE BARRE (dance-free fitness).

A Corio Body – THE MOVES class

THE MOVES classes – as the one I joined – are split into 2 parts. The first part was more fitness focused with bodyweight exercises, adding some resistance thanks to bands: working on arms, back, abs, thighs, butt. The second part was dance focused.

I can hear you from here “Ah no, I can’t do this because I can’t dance, my coordination is terrible blablabla”. So let’s be clear: I can’t dance for sh*t. Coordination is almost a foreign word to me, let alone grace when moving my body around (my usual thing is lifting weights so not really ballerina like)!

BUT I did it. I got 70-80% of the mini choreography right. I got a good sweat and the best fun. Conclusion: if I can, you can. Trust me.

Elle is animated by a real passion and an extremely contagious joy. She’s explaining things well, smiling and laughing all the time. Even though she’s an amazing dancer, she doesn’t care that you don’t perfectly perform the choreography. She wants you to be present with the group, move, and enjoy yourself. And truth is, it’s hard not to enjoy yourself in the atmosphere she creates with this positive attitude.

Who is it for?

If you haven’t worked out for a while, just had a baby, need low impact exercises, don’t feel comfortable lifting weights, go for it!

If you love music, dancing, workouts that don’t involve hours of sweating it out in the gym, go for it!

If you want to light up your day and get in shape at the same time, go for it!

No dance experience is needed, all fitness levels are catered for and you’ll always be supported, feel welcome and at ease, even if you have two left feet (like me). Instructions are simple: get your groove on and have fun! This is definitely the kind of workout that puts a smile on your face.
